Do you want a complete set of MS programs for £35 - as long as you are a student you can get it and to prove you are a student you usually only need to have a university or college email account.

Thanks for sharing Silver. Office 2007 is old though, the new one is around the corner so maybe that is one of the reasons for low price.

May I make two points.

1. Software4Students is an organisation which works directly with makers and sells only to students or staff. They offer all kinds of software deals not just MS so go to the site they may have just what your looking for on offer. For example, I just bought Dragon from them; a speech recognition system so I am not typing this I am just speaking it into my machine!

However, everything is an offer so there is no set stock of anything and offers only last a week or two but once your registered you will get mailings with new offers and these come every few months.

2. MS made such a mess of Vista that their share price has barley changed and when they release its replacement Windows 7 next month you can be sure nothing else is coming out until they know how that goes.

In any case at £35 for 8 programs: Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point, InfoPath, OneNote and Groove one can hardly go wrong or waste your money. Plus, when and if a replacement arrives all you have to do is pay the upgrade price not the full price - this is win win.

I would rather go for iWork 09. It is the fantastic office suite!

I am note sure but is it only available for a MAC?

In any case I am not pushing MS just telling you there is an offer and more importantly there is a place a student can go to get all kinds of software at hugely discounted prices.

but it is only for UK right? Pretty much all the universties in west have this program; however, the number of software you can buy varies a lot. For normal user, they can find typical software via their university/college program. Some companies even actually offer this on their website.

Still the prices offered even after discount can be costly for regular students who usually looking to save their money for high tuition fees. Sometime they do not even use the application often. Thus, they resort to pirated versions. anyway, let not start that discussion

tell me about it; I got my hand on copy of pre-released Office 2010. It was a beta version and seems to be leaked out by some developer. I did not look through it well but at least from UI perspective there were not many changes. Considering this, they may release it with windows 7. Windows 7 has been out for a while now for people to test and it is for free. I loaded a copy of it on my mac via virtual software and it looks way better than vista and seems to work well too but do not take my words since I only use it when playing games and let me tell you that is not often. However, it is still costly; I think they said it would be around 299 or maybe 399 US dollars.

akhee, it depends who you ask. Most of the times choosing a software depend on the need of the users and what they like or dislike. Here are the main reasons why one would choose Office 08 and iWork 09

Mac Users choosing iWork09:

1 - already used to using apple software
2 - runs smoother and should be better in performance since Apple's own product
3 - office 08 has performance issue and UI is not 'mac' looking
4 - office 08 is costly
5 - office 08 is from Microsoft (fanboy and microsoft haters' typical comment)

PC to Mac switchers choosing Office 08:

1 - iWork 09 is not as features rich as Office 08
2 - Cross platform support issue when iWork 09 (this only comes from jahils)
3 - used to using office on PC so comfortable with UI

Yes Software4students only applies in the UK and northern Ireland and they are an MS reseller so sell any software that works on a PC but also you can get MS software that works on a MAC - Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac at £35.

It works via a kind of federation with 1,000s of schools, Colleges and Universities that have registered and that is practically everyone.
