> Islamic-Life Software - Share your ideas

Topic dedicated to discussing & brainstorming ideas for Islamic-Life software (web, computer, iphone).

We are thinking of spending sometime to develop software/applications/tools, which can help people. Obviously, our first aim is to target Muslim community - the tools we develop maybe free or for small price. One of the main reasons for this is that we do not have any source of income for website. Allhamdulillah as our website is growing and we are starting new projects our cost will increase as well; so, there should be some source of income which can cover it other than sadqa (charity).

So please do share your ideas, they do not necessarily have to be related to Islam or Muslims. They can be anything from small web tool to big computer software to iphone application. It can also be helping other Muslim webmasters with developing their websites or installing a software.

The ideas we got so far:

1 - A complete website package: Blog, Content Management System, Forum. This requires a large team so it is not happening anytime soon.

2 - Shamela for Mac - if you don't know about this don't worry.

3 - Household's monthly/weekly budget/money management - an iphone application, this was my brother's idea :)

4 - Islamic Gems: Little quotes, stories, verses...a library of them.This is an iphone application and it was bro Raied's idea

The best thing I would suggest is to get Islamic Life in a mobile format. But I dont think it will be a good news for iPhone users since they get the best web experience already. but still I would like to see ISLAMIC LIFE APP in Appstore which will give a totally customised experience

^ agreed....this is the only thing I can think of right now. A mobile version for the forum will be very useful for those who use their phones more in browsing the internet.

I think we should go first to what is already there in the Itunes app store as an example and see what is not there but needed by the users.

We have to generate ideas so yes, we can go to iTunes and check what is required.

How I see this is: There is an Islamic Life app, There is a quizz section in it for example arabic quizz , and the users open the app and write answers and send it to Ayaah (The IL Arabic Lady) and may be you can correct and give answers and the winner wins.

No doubt , Islamic Life app would be a useful tool and will also make Islamic Life more known which will be of further benefit.

actually, Islamic games is not a bad idea. but we do not want sending back and forth quizes

as far IL mobile version, we can work on designing one, insha'Allah

I think such idea may work if we have some more active members, but with the current number we have, I think it may be a waste of effort. btw, I didn't know that I have such cool nickname...thanks!

Agreed! what about having the quiz "later not now" but having multiple choices instead of writing answers, what do you think?

^yeh, this is what I was alluding to and it's a good idea, masha'Allah. Now, we have to think about what kind of game we want. What kind of informative MC quizzes it should be?

my two cents

1 - different sets of questions depending on gender and age
2 - topics like history, basic aqeedah, day to day fiqh, etc.
3 - we will have to keep in mind, more questions or variations of questions should be update on regular basis otherwise it will become boring

we can also ask the players to send in their questions - more minds more questions

hmmm...I don't think that a game of words meaning game will work because they can "google" the word and get the answer in seconds. So, what about some thing very basic with Arabic grammar? like find singular/plural/verb/noun/feminine/masculine of a certain word?

I dont think we need a mobile IL, becasue Safari is amazing.

The game is a great idea! But a game arabic only...hmmmm i dont know.
But a game just on general Islamic Questions, sounds good. OR maybe we can have an arabic section, and a history section...and so on. And we can update app too. But then again the market for this app will be extremely small. Do keep that in mind.
