wa'alaya as-salam brother yassine

As far I know, there is not any program for mac which could run shamela files. Bootcamp/virtualization is another solution as you mentioned and I have not tried it myself yet to see whether it fully works or not but given that you are running it on window - it should be fine. The crossover type software will always have problem displaying Arabic text.

I have planned to develop shamela version for mac and only Allah knows when I would be able to start and finish. If you like to help then let me know, insha'Allah; I also have another brother in my mind.

As far know, you can use the online version of shamela at Islam Port

Me... I use all three. I have to Macbooks, the Aluminium 08 (the new pro) and the old Macbook pro.

However, I use Linux extensively and have done for the last 5 years. And of course I run Windows too, though I don't really need it.

If you wanna run Windows side-by-side then I suggest you virtualise it. If you don't wanna pay for Parallels or VMware Fusion (VMware are the daddies!), then you can get Sun/Oracle's VirtualBox for free. The only downside to using VirtualBox is that the guest OS's won't accept any external media being plugged in (CDs are an exception here), nor your host machines hard-drive. To overcome this, you could always use dropbox or another cloud service. I think the non-open source version of VirtualBox does in fact support media drives from the host.

Mac is way better than windows. Just wanted to say, I've had a mac for more than 5 months and it is the best OS I've ever worked with (grins)

Just stumbled on this thread and saw quite a few Linux and Mac fanboys. :)

For myself I'm using Windows 7 right now but I have used Linux pretty extensively over the past months. I tried out a few of its various distributions (different editions built on the same Linux core): Mint, Ubuntu (and Kubuntu), openSUSE, and Fedora.

I can say it's a great OS and it's easy to use even for people who don't know much about computers, though slightly more knowledge is required to operate it than Windows or OS X. That's because occasionally you need to use the command line terminal to do certain tasks that can't be done through the graphical interface.

The amount of software available for Linux was stunningly huge. Repositories and repositories on online servers with tons of useful software to do just about everything.

Haven't used Mac but I have heard good reviews about it, especially about its sleek looks :) . But seriously Linux is catching up on the good-looks part. Has anyone here seen the KDE 4.5 interface on Linux in action? It's BEAUTIFUL.

Yeah, KDE has always been nicer and hence it's been my #1 choice for UI for years. However, when it comes to Linux servers, if you choose to have a GUI at all then Gnome would be a much better choice.

Linux is great, but still has a long way (in my opinion) to push itself as a viable alternative for the home user, having said that, the sheer power of Linux makes it great for.... Servers and development! I mean, in terms of UI for example, it still looks too dated and behaves a bit glitchy at times. And given the advancements of OS X 10.6, Windows 7 and the future OS X 10.7, Linux will have to head even further forward.

asalamu alaikum

this is where you are wrong

I have the new Macbook Pro and I am using Virtualbox's freeware virtualization.

The way you can add mac folder, external media folders like a harddrive connected to the router and being able to access it is by going into settings of the virtual box program and click on the folder options and then you can add any folder you want. Once youve added them and you choose the options you want for those folders, then they will be in the "network" folder if your running windows and in the folder titled "VBOXSVR" and all the folders you add will be available in that folder in the network folder and you can click on each folder you add by right clicking and add to network drive and click finish while leaving the default options and you will see that folder added to the computer once you click on the start menu and click on computer, they will be there inshallah

I like this virtual box cuz you can run it side by side with mac as pretty much a normal app.

Mac is phat wal-hamdulillah

Every mac guy needs to have smcfan control and bettertouchtool app. The first app lets you control the speed of your fans and the second one lets you turn your normal trackpad into superman trackpad :D
