| asallamlikum brothers and sister a non muslim told me to present him a science miracle in quran so i did this one. The Date of the Landing on the Moon In chapter 54, we studied the expressions in the Quran that alluded to man’s landing on the moon. One of the most important among the signs is in the first verse of the sura “Qamar”. The number of verses to be counted from this verse to the end of the Quran is 1389. The year 1389 in the Muslim calendar corresponds to the year 1969 in the Gregorian calendar. And the year 1969 was the year when man landed on the moon for the first time. (On the other hand, the number 1389 also points out that man will land on the moon 1389 years after this verse or the Quran was revealed by God. Because the Muslim calendar had started at a time when the revelation was not completed.) 1- [54:1] The Hour has come closer, and the moon has split. the questionHow many verses are there from the first verse of the sura Qamar till the end of the Quran? 1389 In which Muslim year did the first man land on the moon? 1389=1969 its pretty confusing!! does the quran say to convert 1389 to greg calendar? or was it just something people decided on their own? my respone: if u convert 1389 to gregorian its 1969!!! Which is the time where the man landed on moon!! but why gregorian there must be a reason to convert. Myresponse: This 1389 is the arabic calander or rather the muslim u convert it to 1969! did the quran say convert it to greg calendar? i mean convert the year to the calendar My response:did the bible say to translate from hebrew to english this is pretty confusing i need help akhi's!! wsallam |

| ![]() this is the first time I heard this argument. Can you please explain what kind of argument is this akhee? You should be arguing about theological creedal issues and not presenting him scientific miracles. Even if he insists then tell him that you are going to discuss only creedal issues. If you really have to present scientific miracles mentioned in the Qur'an, then mention those which are established and agreed upon. And not some dubious nonsense like this one. I would smack the person who originally came up with such an idiotic argument just to convince the kuffaar. Here is how you pull yourself after being cornered: you tell him that you made a mistake as you took it from some website which presented dubious nonsense and you were not aware of it. Then tell him that let us talk about God and stuff.

| ^English calendar has pagan origins; many months are named after pagan gods and goddesses (i.e., January after Janus, read more about it here). By Arabic, I suppose you mean hijrah calendar (Islamic), then this was started after the Prophet (sal-allahu alayhi wa sallam) migrated to Medina. Allahu A'lam

Well said! And we believe that there is no alternative for English Calendar which is of "pagan origins" and we completely disregard Hijrah calendar. I had posted a thread earlier promoting Hijra Calander and I was given a warning for posting that thread!! LUNAR CALENDAR [Islamic perspective] wassalam | |

| ^wa'alayka as-sallam akhee, let us not start the same discussion again here; you have yet to answer my questions there. You can post there again once I open it after the month of Ramadhan. You were warned for promoting falsehood and consider yourself lucky that I did not gave you fractions because you have been warned before for doing the same thing. Who said that we should not have an Islamic calendar!? We already do and have been continuing to do so for 14 centuries. Where does Islam say that we should standardize the calendar by relaying on calculations!? The Islamic calendar is already standardized and it is based on sighting the moon and not calculations. You and this author is calling for completion of something which is already completed. In addition, as akh Abdul pointed our nicely that the calculation method is not perfect yet, how can we then relay on it!?

| Selam aleykum brother This is one of the controversial miracles. Allot of the miracles you'll find on harun yahya's site are questionable. I would suggest you stick to the more "solid" ones like: 1) The root of mountains, 2) The function of mountains, 3) The layers of waves in the sea 4) The darknes on the bottem of the sea, 5) The barrier between salt and fresh water, 6) The shapes of the human fetus Especially the first 4 of that list are miracles which don't rely on "interpretation" of the verses, but literarly show scientific knowledge which couldn't have been known back then. copy paste: 1. The mountains are shaped like pegs: Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, And the mountains as pegs? (78:6-7) Early tefsir made prior to scientific discoveries: Tafsir.com Tafsir Ibn Kathir Scientific article that confirms the shape of mountains: Beneath the mountains Article explaining how research confirms the function of mountains as insulators for earthquakes: Effects of Large-Scale Surface Topography on Ground Motions, as Demonstrated by a Study of the San Gabriel Mountains, Los Angeles, California -- Ma et al. 97 (6): 2066 -- Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America 2. The deepness of the sea: Or as darkness on a vast, abysmal sea. There covereth him a wave, above which is a wave, above which is a cloud. Layer upon layer of darkness. When he holdeth out his hand he scarce can see it. And he for whom Allah hath not appointed light, for him there is no light. (24:40) Claims that: 1. Deep inside the sea there is darkness, this has now been tested with diving equipment and validated. 2. There are different waves above each other. This has now been tested with hightech equipment, measuring density and temperature, you can find "layers" of sea. 3. The darkness is caused by the layers. Again this is correct. These different layers of sea, since they each have a different density and temperature cause a phenomena which in science we call: "light refraction". Upon each refraction, a percentage of light is reflected back up. So the light is really stoped in part layer by layer. (Do note this only acounts for part of the darkness, allot of the light is also reflected on the surface (+-30%) and also some part of it is "absorbed", nevertheless, that this verse does not contradict science is amazing) (for this verse I didn't look for scientific sources, as I take it the behaviour of light is something widely known and thought in high-school level physics) As for the dates; if the Qur'an indeed predicted the landing of the moon (in my opinion this is a bit far fetched though) then obviously it would have done so in the muslim calander, simply because that was the calander they used. The reason we now convert this date is simply because in the west we are unfamiliar with that calander. But this doesn't change anything. The point is that the qur'an (allegedly) predicted that the moonlanding would occur in the year 1389 after hijra, and then the moonlanding did occur in that year. Wheter we name this year "1389 after hijra" or we call it "1969 after domine" or we'd call it "the year of the moon" these names make no diffrence in the accuracy of the (alleged) prediction.

| Akhee......I am not upset my post was deleted....but I am really upset the comment you posted about Muhammed Asad. Could you please check with your teacher in Islam who is Muhammed Asad? You have a prejudice against me and you are applying the same prejudice against Muhammed Asad. I always use Muhammed Asad's Quran translation because it stands a class apart from others. Please ask about Muhammed Asad and remove the bad comments you made about him. He was Europe’s gift to Islam. You may read his works "Road to Mecca" & "Islam at the Crossroads" that made him international acclaim in the Muslim world. Last edited by salman; 11-14-2009 at 11:38 PM. Reason: fixed embed video |
