Concerning the tourtue ahmad ibn hanbal

I initially thought that his (rahimahullah) torture for disagreeing that the Quran was created lastred for ten years, but in another book, it says it was for only 2.5 years *confused*
can anybody confirm/deny this?

i think you may be confused on 2 issues, one maybe being that imam ahmad was (maybe?) imprisoned and tortured over a period of 2 years (during the rule of al ma'mun and al-mu'tassim [his brother]), when this fitnah ended - al mu'tasims son also ruled under this idea and dogma of al-mu'tazilah, and during this period he [imam ahmad] was kept under house arrest because his injuries were so serious he couldnt stay in prison - maybe the whole ordeal lasting a total of 10 years?

After this a khalifah came and returned back to the ways of Sunnah and gave imam ahmad wealth to say that he's sorry for the khulafah had done before him - which was another fitnah for him.. but afterwards he (ahmad) died. So maybe the whole process was 10years, but the main trial of being tortured under al ma'mun and mu'tassim was 2years? Allahu a'lam.
