you can see from the 2nd pic that the women then wore a sort of head covering too, but it wasn't worn properly like hijab should be. so these pics might be relevant for dawah too.

MASHALLAH!!! THANKS A LOT FOR SHARING!

I always wanted to see how the dress used to be back then!

For Dawah purposes --we can use it to show the morality at "some parts" in arabia maybe of those people who were on Abrahamic Faith but not all as the pagan women used to perform the ritual naked..

Yes there is a head scarf but no proper niqab and it shows how much people changed after the prophet was born and also how some worsened to make the Muslims angry while the shytaan would tempt them.

Assalamualaikum and JazakAllah khair for the pictures :)

But one quick question - how do you know those pictures are accurate?
Any authentic source? [muslim or non-muslim sources] (then I think its viable for da'wah - atleast in my books).

asalaam alaikum

The pictures are based on evidences from the texts, like theres a hadith in Musnad Ahmad where 'Umar ibn Al Khattaab explains the dress of the arab women before Islam - i.e. they wore headdresses but loosely and theres a hadith (in Abu Dawud) in which Allah's Messenger disapproved of what Asmaa' bint Abi Bakr wore (she wore a thin dress) [probably before the hijab verses?] and someone told her that muslim women shouldn't dress like that, and the womenfolk before Islam mixed with men.

I think i heard they used to stamp their feet while their ankles had bangles on too to attract attention. All this was before Islam. So there is info mentioned even in Islamic texts.

And about males, they wore the izaar (like a piece of cloth around their legs), that was the arab dress until later when the jubbah we see today was replaced, and this dress style came from the Africans (can't remember which country specifically.) They also wore the turban, which represented the honour of the man, so there was an instance when Ali ibn Abi Talib was really angry and threw his turban on the floor to show the severity of his situation [the throwing of the turban on the floor means we have been dishonored (our turban is on the ground).]

There is even discussion about the dress of the Arabs in books of Fiqh, because questions come up like - can you wear one massive dress - which consists of one cloth only? So we get an idea from the early books of Fiqh on the types of clothes worn by the people at that time.

White is encouraged because Allah's Messenger (sal Allah alaihi wasalam) encouraged us to wear white and to bury our dead in white.

And Allah knows best.

what is the original source of this link? and how can we rely on wikipedia in this regard? I think there are some restrictions in islamic dress, if you follow it you can wear any dress.
