Hi, I'm new to the site. I've come to learn more about Islam, and to learn a little Arabic (though I'm not too quick with second languages--some very elementary Italian is my only other language.) I'm mostly interested in gaining more insight into Islam, as I am considering (?) conversion. My current religious background is complicated. My parents both had Christian ties growing up, but have not practiced for a long time. As such, I was never raised in a Christian household, per se. Christmas was celebrated in my household when I was a child, but only as a secular and family-oriented holiday. Churchgoing was a once-in-a-decade occurrence. Recently, I was involved in some Christian bible studies, but found them unfulfilling, and don't feel disposed to return.

I'm not sure what else to describe about myself, other than that I'm a very shy person, which keeps me from seeking these questions out in person, which is partly why I'm here too, I guess?
