Default The Courage of Abdullah Ibn Mubaraak

AsalamuAlaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Shaqeeq bin Ibraheem reports:

It was once said to ?Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak, ?After you have prayed with us you don?t sit with us?? He replied, ?I go and sit with the Sahabah and the Tabi?een.? We said, ?And how can you sit with the Sahabah and Tabi?een (when they have all passed away)?? He replied, ?I go and read the knowledge I have collected, I find their narrations and deeds. What would I do with you? You sit around backbiting people.?

Adh-Dhahabee - in his biography of ?Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak.

If only I had the courage to walk away like that, for a good cause, mashaAllah.

[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: The opinion of the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) was based on the information contained in the Ahadith which have been mentioned above. They did not take the Ahadith which interpreted the leaving of Salat as Kufr mere scolding or reproof. They considered slackness and negligence in Salat as Kufr and apostasy and regarded Salat a symbol of Islam.
