The Qur'an says to have no divisions within Islam. "The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah - the [sic] which we have sent by inspiration to thee - and that which we enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them..." (42:13).
Question: If Islam is the truth, which of the divisions within it is the "most" true?
Question: Is the muslim religion as a whole in error since there are divisions within its ranks?
The Qur'an says, "And dispute ye not with the People of the Book [Jews and Christians and the Bible], except in the best way, unless it be with those of them who do wrong but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you," (29:46).
Question: Isn't the Qur'an here saying that the Muslim is to believe what the Bible says?

It's the way of the Prophet and the understanding of his companions. So that is Sunni Islam, so long as we follow the way of the Prophets companions in understanding the religion.

No, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us that we would split up into sects like the Jews & Christians. Although in the Qur'an, Allah orders us not to - we still will, and these divisions are due to desire of people to innovate in religious matters - although this is forbidden.

It is our duty as Muslims to follow the true path, and that is the way of the Prophet and his companions. This has been preserved for us, even uptill today.

We believe Jesus was the top 5 Messengers' of God, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus son of Mary and Muhammad (peace be upon them.)

Prophet Jesus was given the Gospel [Injeel] - however, Christians don't believe this. Since we believe he was a Messenger, we believe he was given the Gospel, but that is not existent today. The Bible is not the Gospel of Jesus, therefore we do not believe in it. However, we believe in the final Testament of God - the Qur'an, which confirmed what came before, and cleared the doubts of what was. Therefore we believe in the final revelation, aswell as believing in the Books revealed to the Prophets of before, although those books may not be present today.

Peace.

Hello,

It is a fact that Muslims today, are divided amongst themselves. The tragedy is that such divisions are not endorsed by Islam at all. Islam believes in fostering unity amongst its followers.

The Glorious Quran says:

"And hold fast,
All together, by the rope
Which Allah (stretches out for you),
and be not divided among yourselves;"

[Al-Quran 3:103]

Which is the rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse? It is the Glorious Quran. The Glorious Quran is the rope of Allah which all Muslims should hold fast together. There is double emphasis in this verse. Besides saying hold fast all together it also says, be not divided.

It is Prohibited to make sects and divisions in Islam

The Glorious Quran says:

"As for those who divide
Their religion and break up
Into sects, thou hast
No part in them in the least:
Their affair is with Allah:
He will in the end
Tell them the truth
Of all that they did."
[Al-Quran 6:159]

In this verse Allah (swt) says that one should disassociate oneself from those who divide their religion and break it up into sects.

But when one asks a Muslim, "who are you?", the common answer is either I am a Sunni, or I am a Shia. Some call themselves Hanafi, or Shafi or Maliki or Humbali. Some say I am a Deobandi, while some others say I am a Barelvi.

One may ask such Muslims, "Who was our beloved prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)? Was he a Hanafi or a Shafi, or a Humbali or a Maliki?" No! He was a Muslim, like all the other prophets and messengers of Allah before him.

If anyone poses a Muslim the question who are you, he should say "I am a MUSLIM, not a Hanafi or a Shafi". Surah Fussilat chapter 41 verse 33 says

"Who is better in speech
Than one who calls (men)
To Allah, works righteousness,
And says, I am of those
Who bow in Islam (Muslim)? "
[Al-Quran 41:33]

The Quran says "Say I am of those who bow in Islam". In other words, say, "I am a Muslim".

b. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) dictated letters to non-Muslim kings and rulers inviting them to accept Islam. In these letters he mentioned the verse of the Quran from Surah Ali Imran chapter 3 verse 64:

Say ye: "Bear witness
That we (at least)
Are Muslims (bowing
To Allahs Will)."
[Al-Quran 3:64]
