Sis Rawayda, yeah this is what I meant in my previous post, they thought that I was an extremist man who wanted to enforce women to specific rules! | |

For example, Muslim woman: Women should look after their husbands to the best of their capabilities. Muslim man: Women should look after their husbands to the best of their capabilities. It doesn't matter who is speaking here. Should women look after their husbands? The answer is obviously yes. If someone says this is "extreme" or "oppressive" then the argument would equally apply to the man and woman claiming that women/wives should look after their husband. I hope my point is clear to you dear sis. All the best, Fe Aman llah. P.s. I dunno if the bold parts make it work better, but whenever someone makes the text bold I tend to understand a little better...for some odd, unknown and probably psychological reason. :)

| After thinking about this for the past hour or so while reading some things, I think perhaps if you change your perspective on this and myself included we will both see that it is not that your argument becomes any better simply because you are female but, instead it becomes more convincing to some. And these are two different things, to convince and to argue. Take for example, a man saying “Men protect women more than they [women] protect men in the physical sense” and compare it to a woman saying that. I think generally, and this is buying into how biased people are, we tend to accept things that might be interpreted as sexist from the same gender as opposed to the opposite gender.Although there is nothing particularly sexist about saying men generally tend to protect women far more than women protecting men. (abuse cases etc don't really count cuz that's a whole different ball game). I'm outtie, Salamat.

| Asalam alykom sis Ruwayda I got what you meant here, and right it's not always work like your examples. Don't mix up things dear I was talking about something very direct to women and have been seen by most of westerners as limiting women freedom to make them wear hijab, so in this case the women words do matter a lot in explaining the purpose of hijab and such. I remember there was a simimlar discussion about shari'ah laws in IslamicBoard forums if you heard about it and much of of replies at the beginning was from brothers there which lead the thread starter who was non-Muslim to wonder and ask or let me say "assume" publically that sisters "on forum" don't like the shari'ah rules that's why they are not replying! Later on the who faced him was most of sisters there to clear the misconception he had that women don't like shari'ah rules. And simply what prevent us sisters there to not reply on the first place was that he posted the thread in section that is not visited much by us sisters. I hope you got me now my dear sis |
