we do not have specified the time limit - if I remember correctly some members early on wanted this option so then I removed the time limit. I suppose maybe we are the only one who has this feature enabled. It has its benefits like less work for mods, ease for members, etc.

Asalam Alykom

To make it unlimited? Do u think its a good idea?

What about make it editable up to 3 or 4 weeks? that will be more secure I guess

^thats just a suggestion

secure in what sense sister? The only issue I can think of is someone editing his/her posts and then claiming that the other person accused him/her of saying somehting which he/she never said. Or someone attacking the staff for a related reason. Well, this can be countered in two ways: first, there is always a mark left when someone edited a post - date stamp and username, even the admins and mods. second, we talk backups of database frequently so we can always verify the claim, insha'Allah

if you had something else in mind, please share, Jazak Allah khayr

Well the edit button can be used both for good or bad,the bad part was fluently explains by brother Salman. The good part of it might be that editing can be used for correction in sentences non believers might take advantage of,I remember by accident I typed on another forum 'save your temptations from Islam' when I meant Shaytaan, somehow I configured a brain major typo.

yeah, this is exactly what I mean, but adding to that, take this scenario:

me and some other member were discussing something in a thread, and after me posting a post by few months I edited my post, someone else came to read my post....it will be very confusing to him to see such contradicting posts

do you think that its really effective for me to edit my post after posting it by few months when someone came a long to read that thread?
I think s/he will be totally lost!

For the staff to check any "very" old posts that had been edited is something unpractical, it will be other members reading edited posts who will get really confused!!

why we cant have a maximum period to edit posts, and if someone is in dire need to edit his/her post for a very reasonable reason he can contact one of the mods to do the job in editing?

Brother Muhammed, If the edit period was fairly good and reasonable then this will give you enough time until you can change your post, so yeah we need the edit button for the reason you mentioned but we want it to be limited for specific time

^masha'Allah good points sister. I agree with impracticality of checking old posts and the fact that editing months old posts can confuse new readers. However,
The former can be resolved by enabling post editing history feature, which keep tracks of the changes made to the original message and allows us to revert back to any previous change. This feature is as easy as editing thread title, etc.

The latter can be resolved by adding the reason for editing and/or requesting the other users, who have quoted you, to edit their posts. If you do not want to request to other users to edit their posts because you have changed yours, then you can always ask the staff. However, this is another a long way to go about it.
I will add a maximum period, unless others are against it. How about 1 week?

^ are we sure that all members that quoted me in an old post before few months will be available if I asked them to change their posts because I changed mine?
I think that is un-practical as well

What about having the maximum period of editing to be 10 days, that seems to be reasonable period and guarantee that members during this period will at least keep checking any reply to their posts since they will be still interested in that specific thread

^smile, masha'Allah, good try; however I said:
If you do not want to request other users to edit their posts after you have changed yours, then you can always ask the staff.
not request also includes, inactivity of users, ban, etc. What I am arguing that it is doable; however, I do agree that it can be unpractical. Therefore, Jazak Allah khayr for exploiting this flaw in my argument.

I have changed the max time to ONE week. I think this is good enough, unless others agree with your 10 days proposal.

Asalamu Alaykum,

I didn't wanted to make another thread so decided to ask here since this thread talks about posts.

I've notice that when i post a thread and i want to post another post in the same thread it automatical adds it to the first post if no one has posted on it except for me. If you know what i mean... Is there a way we can change this? I mean sometimes theres like a long article and we don't it to be just in one post.
