| Assalamu alaykum, Adage Ltd. is a non-profit translation and education company registered in the United Kingdom. Adage is dedicated to the production of the first online database of ahādīth translated into English and has the capacity to incorporate several additional languages in the future, if God wills. The translated ahādīth will be available online on a regular basis as well as published when work on the English phase is completed. For more information about this project, kindly visit our website: http://www.adageonline.net The available translations of ahādīth up till now, be that online or published, are either imprecise or partial at best. Contrastingly, and due to the significance of presenting ahādīth in the way suitable to the noble figure of Prophet Muhammad, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, we seek to provide the entire English translations of the following books: 1. Sahīh al-Bukhāriy 2. Sahīh Muslim 3. Sunan Abī-Dawud 4. Sunan at-Tirmithiy 5. Sunan an-Nasā'iy 6. Sunan Ibn-Mājah 7. Muwatta' Mālik We made sure that the translation of each hadīth is displayed beside its Arabic version, along with its full tahqīq (reference); i.e. its degree of authenticity, reporter, book (chapter), number and narrator. Due to its significance and scope, the planning phase for this long-term project and intricate task lasted over 18 months. Currently, the accreditation of this project is pending while actual work has already started with the contribution and blessings of several hadīth and Islamic scholars. Our team comprises a selection of competent volunteers devoted to this honourable cause, all of whom seek no financial benefit. We are solely dedicated in this project to spreading the words of our beloved Prophet (may God’s peace and blessings be upon him). Furthermore, this project aims to make a humble contribution to the introduction of Islamic teachings to all through him that represents Islām best. We would like to stress that we do not promote or affiliate with any organization. We would be very grateful if you could spare some time to help us in this endeavor. Your contribution can be in the form you find convenient and this flexibility gives you the freedom to choose. Any contribution as small as pointing in someone's direction could make a difference. You can join our team in any of the following specialties: Job title: Arabic Branch member Job Code: A 1 Members of the Arabic Branch proofread the Arabic ahādīth by fixing any typos and then adding the tahqīiq in order to present the ahādīth in the best form possible. A high degree of meticulousness is required for applicants who would like to join our team, in addition to a hard-working mentality, an intermediate level of English and reliable internet access. 2) English Branch a) Job title: Translator/Editor Job Code: E 1 Members of the English Branch translate ahādīth and edit them. Applicants who would like to join our team need to have an exceptional level of English proficiency as well as a good experience in the field; translation of religious material in particular. A special evaluation test will be set to gauge whether the applicant is sufficiently qualified to translate the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him). b) Job title: Native-Speaker Editor Job Code: E 2 Editors in this phase are responsible for the final revision of the translation to ensure its eloquence. Applicants who would like to join our team need to be native English speakers who are acquainted with Islamic material and have experience in writing/editing (applicants who have knowledge of Arabic will not be considered for this post, since this knowledge can be detrimental to their performance). 3) Islamic Studies Experts Job title: Islamic Expert Job Code: IE Members of this Branch help in the task of further explaining the ahādīth (in Arabic) to our members in their on-going translation work. | ![]() I think I would fit mostly in the whole of 2 and 3 I would also like to add a crucial suggestion to the immense and noble project may Allah facilitate its completion. I've noticed that arabic, particularly religious arabic, has to be explained conceptually rather than translated. A cut-n-paste translation strips the actuality of the hadeeth particularly to a western audience whose linguistic properties lacks any fluidity of intellectual thought as the arabic does to its people. Adding to that the entirely philosophical approach to reality within this deficient language makes understanding the arabic all the more difficult. So in short, I would say that you should stress to your team of translators to take this into account, that the end result of these works will most likely be a sharh of these works rather than a cut-n-paste translation. Since this is the case, you will need at least one, if not more people well grounded in the meaning of these ahadeeth. With this being what is necessary, it would be pertinent to provide the typical translation AND THEN to provide an elucidated version of a translation where it includes the subtleties, meanings, and the various issues that such a hadeeth affects in its place in Islam thereby correlating it with other hadeeth. secondly, I cannot stress this enough to you and your team. You have to extremely perpetuate into your entire project and make it to be known in each published work a very important principles stressed by the mutakhasisoon of Hadeeth. The asl is "hadeeth lead people astray except for the people of hadeeth" the reason why this principles needs to be stressed and known is to prevent the fitnah that todays freelance thinking has caused whereby the generality of people, due to ignorance, read hadeeth in isolation of every other hadeeth and then go around making and formatting an entire idea based on their cursory reading of a hadeeth on a particular topic while never having come across other hadeeth stated on the same subject. This fitnah was partially responsible for formulating the modernist and progressive movement, along with other trends that create a type of pseudo isolationist mentality where every muslim feels himself qualified to have the right opinion based on the fact that he read 8 ahadeeth on the issue. So I would really be cautious and try to make known that the benefit of ilmu-hadeeth is to the learn the entirety of the sunnah and that a judgment on any particular issue in Islam cannot be arrive at by reading a hadeeth or two and then formulating what you think is correct. This methodology only works with tarheeb wa targheeb which is why hadeeth works like arba'een an-nawawiyyah and riyaadhu-saaliheen were works originally produced for the common masses as the general usooli principle above only applies to those ahadeeth that affect aqaa'id and ahkaam and tareekh. LASTLY, but not leastly, I would also suggest that you and you team work in conjunction with this project The Islamic Search Center they already translated tirmidhi and left the arabic and brought its english. What is special about them is that they utilized the Tahqeeq of Haafidh al-Albanee in Sunan at-Tirmidhee. asalamu alaikum

| Wa alaykum assalam. First of all, allow me to commend your knowledge and impeccable language. We cannot appreciate your comments and remarks more as it is this kind of feedback that nourishes our experience and provides us with the reassurance that we are on the right track alhamdu liLlah. Now to join Adage, I would like to ask you to please visit this link http://adageonline.org/forms/form.job_application.php and to fill the application form before submitting it please. Our Evaluation Branch will take it from there and contact you within 3 days ISA. Regarding the valuable points you raised: · We have an excellent team of translators, editors, English native speakers, and linguists that believe in this cause and ensure that the translation provided meets the important criteria you mentioned of explaining the concepts involved and not just the hadith text · To explain the previous point further: while translation is as close as possible to the actual text of the hadith in an attempt to maintain the origin of the translation, we have an extensive use of footnotes that explain concepts that are foreign to non-Muslims or non-speakers of Arabic · Translation is based on a clear interpretation provided to front line translators as no translation is allowed based on personal interpretation of the hadith. · We also have Arabic language and Islamic studies experts on board to help in explaining texts further when needed. · The English Branch includes a three-phase translation and editing process that is followed by a final QC stage to ensure quality · A Hadith Glossary project provides members of the Branch with the resources they need as well guarantees consistency · We avoid the use of transliteration as much as possible to make sure that the final text is accessible and friendly to readers · We have created a special group for all members of the English Branch to use for communication and bouncing off ideas about difficult ahadith or terms As for how the public use hadith, I could not agree with you more on the point you raised. What we can do though is to present hadith in its entirety and make it available to avoid that selective nature. We intend as well to have scholars that we already started to affiliate with to write about hadith in our website and have those articles available as well for all our readers. Finally, we already have it in our plans to collaborate with similar entities and we will certainly consider the one you mentioned ISA. Looking forward to receiving your application ISA to welcome you onboard and JAK again. Quote:
