Question Re: Question About Jesus's Death on the Cross

ASSAD,

When you wrote:
Quote:

I think you just meant there is no specific mention of the Messiah's resurrection, since the Old Testament in places like Daniel say that good people will resurrect.

You wrote:
Quote:
Not even once, did the Old Testament predict for the foretold Servant (Jesus) to be raised to GOD Almighty after death.
If some Old Testament passages talked about the Messiah's death, and other passages said he would be raised to God, does that mean the Messiah would be raised after his death?

I read that the Jews were confused by prophecies (maybe in Zephaniah or Isaiah 53) that the Messiah would both die and reign, so they expected two Messiahs, only one of whom, the "son of Ephraim," would die.

You are right that Isaiah 52:13 ("he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted,") means that he would be lifted up and honored. Why does this mean that he could not be lifted up to heaven and honored after being killed?

You gave as another translation "he will be raised and lifted up," and said it seems odd for the verse to have both words and agree with the crucifixion story. But wouldn't it agree with the story where he was first raised from the dead and then lifted to heaven?

I disagree that Jesus implicitly admitted he was sinful when he stopped a woman's stoning. He said "He who is first among you cast the first stone." Not only are all human executioners themselves sinful, but God has the power to forgive all crimes despite the Old Testament commandments. I think God wants people to forgive instead of executing people. At least some Muslim countries won't execute someone if the victim's family forgives them.

PARTURE:

You said Psalm 91 "doesn't talk about Crucifixion." Do you think it predicts the Messiah's resurrection, or just as you said, his rescue of us?

I disagree that "Islam wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth," but there are probably alot of Palestinian Christians who want their homes back.

Could Isaiah 52 & 53 be about God's servant Israel?

Was it only because Isaiah 53 referred to the Messiah's tomb that you wrote:
Quote:
"His resurrection on the third day was not right from the moment of His death on the cross but on the third day. Very plain."
Could lifted up mean "lifted up" as a leader amongst his people, instead of lifted up to heaven?

I read that other translations say the servant in Isaiah 53:5 was bruised instead of crushed. Could a person be "crushed" without being killed? If a person is led to slaughter, does that mean they were actually slaughtered?

The King James version doesn't have for Isaiah 53:8 "But who among the people realized that he was dying for their sins?" Instead the King James Version says he was cut off from the land of the living. Which translation is right? Could the "land of the living" mean Israel?

You translated Isaiah 53:9 as "But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave." The King James Version says: "he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death." Is this the same thing?

You translated Isaiah 53:9 as: "Yet when his life is made an offering for sin," but the modern Jewish Masoretic translation says: "it pleased the LORD... to see if his soul would offer itself in restitution." Which is right?

I did not see the movie of the Muslim woman who became Christian on your link.

Thumbs up Re: Question About Jesus's Death on the Cross

ASSAD and Parture:

Thank you for your discussion on the ancient scriptures. They have centuries of ancient wisdom and moral observations about God.

After seriously considering the scriptures and reading different points of view, I have come to think that they predict that the Messiah would resurrect. It was surprising for some of the passages, which don't seem to at first glance. I felt a need to write about the opening of the scriptures on my website rakovskii.livejournal.com

Peace be to you.

Default Re: Question About Jesus's Death on the Cross

Prophet Jesus called his people to worship Allah without partners. He never claimed divinity for himself, nor did he ever ask to be worshipped. Jesus never claimed to be God, or asked his people to worship him. In fact, Jesus told his followers to pray to God as he himself did. And our logic would tell us that someone who prays to God cannot possibly be God himself. The two has to be separate entities – one is the worshipper and the other is the object of worship. --> an excerpt taken from TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING ISLAM
