are you talking about marriage contract issue? If so, Shaykh Haitham al-Hadadd covered it back then.

I'm not that far yet, I was thinking the initial stages of forming a contract and the parties involved. How does that work in Islam?

Any books you can recommend inshALLAH?

I am sure it will be easier to find the books if you mention the specific topics you are looking for. Have you got your hands on Usul al-Fiqh by Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) and other books on basic fiqh and its usul? It will be much easier to learn and get better understanding if you start with simple ones and then move on to lengthy and detailed books.

khayr, try getting Bidayatul-Mujtahid wan-Nihaayatul-Muqtasid by ibn Rushd (rahimahullah). He must have covered the topics you are looking for. I am also attaching some pdfs for you, they are pretty much the summary of the work ibn Rushd (rahimahullah); they are by some brother from Pakistan:
OUTLINES OF ISLAMIC JURISPRUDENCE
THEORIES OF ISLAMIC LAW (The Methodology of Ijtihaad)
GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF CRIMINAL LAW (ISLAMIC AND WESTERN)
ISLAMIC LAW OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATION (PARTNERSHIPS)
ISLAMIC LAW OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATION (CORPORATIONS)
Islamic Law and the CRC (Convention on the Rights of the Child)
Islamic Law and Human Rights
Important Note: the pdfs and Bidaytul Mujtahid are based on comparative fiqh and awam (people like us) should be using them ONLY for purpose to learning the usul of Shari'ah and familiarizing ourselves with the basics. They are not for the purpose of learning the Shari'ah and having full understanding of it or throwing around whatever mentioned therein as if that what the Shari'ah is. Just as they are beneficial, they can equally be harmful if not studied with a knowledgeable shaykh or student of knowledge. Because they are based on comparative fiqh, the opinions of scholars from different madhahaab are mentioned and due to lack of ilm some opinions may seem as: "where did this come from" or "what the heck" or "this is against Islam", etc. Some opinions might not be final position of the madhab. So we need to be careful how we digest and understand the information mentioned in these books.

Please keep this note in mind, insha'Allah

I am sure others, who have studied books on fiqh, can help you more, insha'Allah

yes, exactly, I was going to post the same files. And yes, they are merely to familiarize ourselves with the subject matter but in no way is it the basic for people to learn.
