The sufis have invented deviants practices and beleifs to practice Islam; so, they use this word to associate themselves with one of the different devaint tariqas and claim that all these tariqas come from the sahabas (radiAllahu anhuma) or other pious Imams of Ahlus Sunnah (rahimahumullah) i.e., Shaykh Abdal Qadr Jilani. All of these deviants tariqas are misguided sects. The actual practices and understanding of companions is that which has come to us via authentic sources and trustworthy pious people of knowledge. They got quite a long list of tariqas, you can get a list of them here and Allah knows best
