As-Salam 'Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

We will be transferring our website to a different host over the course of next few weeks. Therefore, do not get confused if the website is down or something like that. Make dua'a that our transfer goes smooth and we get better service & server speed.

Our hosting with current company expires in January and domain itself expires in March (I think). I was planing to do the transfer in December; however, due to my involvement in the Multaqa project and uploading content at iDawah, I think it is better to do it now.

From now on, we will be managing three websites hosted at one place: islamic-life, idawah, al-fiqh. Maybe we will add another to the list, if ustad Abu Tauba & crew would want my help. But for now, just those three; so, think of them as sister sites. We will link each of the websites to make things easier for the users, insha'Allah.

Just to let you know, we got $100 (US) from the google adds, before we removed them for good, so that will be used to cover up the cost.

it varies akhee: you may get 5 cents or 50 cents or even nothing. It depends on the website, the time spent, etc.

May Allah make the transferring easy and smooth, and May Allah grant you a better source of income than the google Ads you removed since you removed it for the good of your website and to avoid fitna

don't you get any requests from other webmasters to include their links or even any organization ads here?

And how long the down time will last?

^wa iyaakee ameen. The cost are not much; it is only around $100 per year (excluding the hosting cost), which is really not much given the reward that we may earn, insha'Allah. Google adds came handy because they will cover most of the hosting cost this time around, allhamdulillah.

our website is not popular so we do not get any advertising requests, maybe in the future, insha'Allah. And I do not think we will charge good Islamic websites for posting their links here - I am not big fan of this.

the downtime should not be longer than few hours unless something horribly goes wrong. The downloads section will definitely be down for quite sometime because it will take me a while to re-upload them unless I divide the job among others. Other than that, everything else will be up within a day, insha'Allah.

I will post up the definite day and estimate downtime so that the members know in advance.

allhamdulillah, we have successfully changed the host. All our websites are pointing to the new servers. Now it is just matter of time before IL's registrar is transferred to new company and that could take a weak. The website may go down for short while when the transfer is carried out and even I would not know about this. So if this does happen, please be patient and try it later, insha'Allah.

allhamdulilah, the migration was very smooth and very less time consuming. I did not expect it to be like this easy. It was like "click click, upload database & files..subhaanAllah I am already done". Indeed this is the barakah of the blessing month and the Rabb helps the slaves from means which they never thought of. The database upload is always a problem due to its bigger size and back-end not allowing all of it be uploaded at once. So you either need root user access for database, which does not happen since shared hosting. Or you take long tedious way of chopping the file into smaller chunks and uploading it. Chopping is not only time consuming but also makes you face other issues: parts of long text missing, character encoding issue, etc. However, allhamdulillah, I found this little tweak which did the job in few seconds and everything looks good.

If you see notice any funny pattern (i.e., funny characters, part of post is missing) about the posts on the forum please post it here, and I will look into it, insha'Allah.

PS: downloads section is broken, it will take me some time before I can re-upload those files

^yes, allhamdulillah - so far what I have noticed is their servers are faster than godaddy and they have extra features enabled which makes the page load even faster. Allhamdulillah, go migration thus far
